University of Wolverhampton Salvaged

A new shipment of wood today has just arrived from Wolverhampton and along with it over a hundred years of history!

The roots of the University of Wolverhampton lie in the Wolverhampton Tradesmen’s and Mechanics’ Institute founded in 1827 and the 19th-century growth of the Wolverhampton Free Library (1870), which developed technical, scientific, commercial and general evening classes. This grew into the Wolverhampton and Staffordshire Technical College in 1926.

The MB building on Stafford Street, Wolverhampton, was being steadily brought down piece by piece to make way for a £25 million new science block. We commissioned a reclamation team to gather all the stunning wood that was used in the building so we could save a slice of history for another generation to enjoy. Everything we use has character and features you cant get from a shelve or in a high street store, companies often use words like reclaimed or rustic and plank to draw your attention but the truth is you could be buying wood only a year old.

The beautiful building, a long-standing feature on the historic city’s skyline, has seen thousands of students walk through its large corridors.
